Semester Reflection....
This semester I learned how to use the pen tool, manipulate things using the white arrow tool, use Photoshop to edit my pictures, typography, masks, & lots more! Next semester I wouldn't want to change anything, I really like this class. It's such a fun place to be, Mrs. Dayton's so helpful and patient. I would love to learn how to do advertisements next semester!
Who shot the serif?

How do you add a layer mask to a particular layer?
You click on the layer you wan to the mask to be on. Then you go to the bottom of your layers palette and find the button that's a grey box with a white circle inside click on it.
What 2 colors are used to create the mask?
Black & white.
Describe the process of using the layer mask.
First you have to put the mask on the layer, like I stated earlier. Then, you have to go to the brush tool and adjust the size & hardness (for this project you'd want 100% hardness). Then you start "painting" in your picture. You'll notice you picture will erase. If you mess up and need to fix it, go down to the bottom left side and switch the black and white.

Within the electromagnetic spectrum, which waves allows us to see color?
Visible light.
Describe white light.
Equal parts of all colors in the electromagnetic speactrum.
How do we see color if objects "have no color of their own"?
Absorb/reflect colors.
What is a glass prism?
Transparent, triangular object that breaks down white light into many different colors.
What seven colors result when White light is refracted through a prism?
Red,orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
Describe hue?
Color of light itself; each different hue has a different reflected wavelength.
The right use of color can do what?
Maximize productivity, minimize visual fatigue, and relax the whole body.

When does black light occur?
No light is reflected to your eye.
How color is perceived depends on what?
The type of light that it is seen with.
What is a color wheel?
Visual tool that shows the relationship with primary, secondary, and tertiary colors.

Can only be naturally created. Red, yellow, blue.
What are secondary colors? Name them?
Primary+Primary; Orange, Green, Purple.
What are tertiary colors? Name them?
Primary+Secondary; Red-orange, yellow-orange, yellow-green, blue-green.
What are neutral colors? How can they be created?
The colors don't show up on the color wheel; very low in saturation. Black, grey, whites, browns.
How can a neutral color help a design?
Help put the focus on other colors.
What are complementary colors? Name them?
Positioned opposite of each other on the color wheel. Red, green, orange, blue, yellow, and violet.

Journal Post 9:)
Compare & contrast vector images and pixel images:
- vector images are not made up of pixels therefore you can make a vector image as bug or as small as you want and it will always have the same quality.
- Pixel images are pictures that have roughly around 72 pixels per inch. Pixels make a picture choppy and jagged, so if you want to change the pictures size you won't get a good quality.
To print raster images the quality needs to be 300 dpi.
To display raster images on the internet the quality needs to be at 72 dpi.

Why must designers pay close attention to how color is utilized within a composition?
Designers must pay close attention because, if we/they use the wrong colors it could make our product look unprofessional.
Why is the color wheel an important tool for graphic designers?
The color wheel is an important tool because, it allows us to see what color work together and what colors clash. It also allows us to see how to make a color.

The color wheel is an important tool because, it allows us to see what color work together and what colors clash. It also allows us to see how to make a color.
I think the designer made this picture with neutral colors because, he/she wanted to give the picture a feeling of closeness and maybe to tie the picture in together. If this picture had a white background with different colored "cats" then the picture would loose that feeling of comfort.
How do we see the color of an object?
We seen colors by light bouncing off the object(s) and the light absorbing all the colors bouncing off except the color(s) the object is. (example: if you were looking at an apple the light would bounce off the apple and all the colors of the rainbow except red (cause that's the color of the apple) would be absorbed by light.)

What is the pen tool used for?
The pen tool is used to trace various textures and pictures.
How can you manipulate a path/line in Illustrator?
To manipulate a path/ line you use the white arrow tool. The "tools" within the white arrow tool are the pen+ tool, the pen- tool, and the convert tool. The pen+ tool adds anchors to the line/path. The pen- tool gets rid of anchors, and the convert tool allows you to move the line (bend it/manipulate it.
How do you create a clipping mask in Adobe Illustrator?
1) You select the square tool and make a square around the object(s) you want to keep.
2)Then you click on the black arrow tool and select the whole picture (the stuff you want to keep and the stuff you don't).
3)The go up to the menu bar and go to object.
4)In the object bar go to clipping mask, then go to make.

This picture is showing the element of texture. It shows the detail of the bread very well. You can really imagine how the bread feels. I think this is a really great poster, and it demonstrates texture in an amazing way. I think texture enhances the design by making the audiences senses break through.
This poster demonstrates space. It has a certain spot of attention which is created by empty space. I think this is a fun/ cute picture. This is one of my favorite elements to work with. I think this whole poster has a good idea. Value enhances pictures by making something the center of attention and really catching a readers eye. Its a great technique to use.
The element of value is my favorite element of design! I just love the way it looks, it can be classic, dramatic, or both. This picture really uses this element to capture the seriousness of the girl and her outer beauty. This picture makes me think of old time movies. This elements really enhances pictures by taking a goofy picture in to something dramatic and calm.
This last picture represents the element of shape. This looks like something I could create in Adobe Illustrator. I think its so cool that all these shapes could make up this brilliant picture. I enjoy looking at pictures with shapes because I feel like its something I could do myself in Adobe and that gives me confidence. This picture is clever and uses shapes in a stylish, unique way. Shapes enhance a picture by giving it s realistic effect.

Graphic designers can effectively communicate by using texture, pictures, & symbols.
Understanding the history, culture and movements of fine and graphic arts will make you a better producer of visual messages. Why?
It will make you a better producer because, it makes you understand the forms of art work and the eras of art work. If a customer wants a 80's theme you have to know what that theme is.
