Photo Composition:)

Snapshot= is a quick shot, often spontaneous, taken to record a moment in time.

Photograph= an image taken with care and thought.
Rules of Composition:
  • rule of thirds- imaginary lines drawn dividing the frame of your camera into thirds, both horizontally and vertically.  Place the important subject of your composition where these lines intersect. Place your horizon line at the top or the bottom. Or fill up the entire frame with the subject for a close up image.
  • Leading lines- use the lines created within the foreground or background of the composition to lead the viewer's eye through the photo. Lines can draw attention to one or more intended subjects or a single focal point.
  • Point of view- change the way your subject is perceived by changing the camera position. If you are photographing a subject that you want to see very tall, compose the shot so that the camera is looking upward & vice versa.
  • Simplicity- keep your background simple and clear of clutter. The mood and effectiveness of a photo can be altered by what is in the background. A chaotic composition will cause the viewer to look away.

Semester Reflection....

This semester I learned how to use the pen tool, manipulate things using the white arrow tool, use Photoshop to edit my pictures, typography, masks, & lots more! Next semester I wouldn't want to change anything, I really like this class. It's such a fun place to be, Mrs. Dayton's so helpful and patient. I would love to learn how to do advertisements next semester!

Who shot the serif?

How do you add a layer mask to a particular layer?

You click on the layer you wan to the mask to be on. Then you go to the bottom of your layers palette and find the button that's a grey box with a white circle inside click on it.

What 2 colors are used to create the mask?

Black & white.

Describe the process of using the layer mask.

First you have to put the mask on the layer, like I stated earlier. Then, you have to go to the brush tool and adjust the size & hardness (for this project you'd want 100% hardness). Then you start "painting" in your picture. You'll notice you picture will erase. If you mess up and need to fix it, go down to the bottom left side and switch the black and white.
